Androstenedione blood test

Normal Reference Range
0 – 12yrs = 0 – 1nmol/L
>12yrs = 3 – 8nmol/L
Test Information
The androgen testosterone and the oestrogens oestrone and oestradiol are precursors to A4, which is produced in the gonads and adrenal glands. A4 may build up in CAH from a lack of 11- or 21-hydroxylase, or in PCOS from accelerated testosterone turnover.
Clinical Indications
• Monitoring the treatment of patients with CAH • Diagnosis of 17-Hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase deficiency.
