Normal Reference Range
Liver/Biliary Fractions (L1, L2): = Approx.: 60% of Total
Bone Fraction (B): = Approx.: 30% of Total
Bone Fraction (B): = <50U/L
Intestinal Fractions (I1, I2, I3) and Placental Fractions (P1, P2) =
i.e. I1+I2+I3+P1+P2: = <10%*
Note: Placental fractions may be much higher if the subject is pregnant or malignancy present
Test Information
Causes of normal-to-elevated ALP levels include: cholestatis, biliary obstruction, bone disease, healing fractures, hepatitis, hyperparathyroidism, liver disease, osteoblastic bone cancers, osteomalacia, Paget's disease and Rickets.
Clinical Indications
• Elevated ALP and/or suspected liver/bone pathology
• Assessment of hyperparathyroidism
• Assessement of extent of bone loss to implement vitamin D supplementation in high risk cases eg. bariatric surgery patients
